As we bid farewell to another impactful year, there were some highs and challenges that shaped our year. From the transformative force of technology in live online auction bidding to the promising signs of agricultural resurgence with recent rainfall, we've navigated it once again and embraced opportunities.

In the dynamic landscape of rural business, the adoption of live online auction bidding and online clearance sales has emerged as a transformative force for farmers, particularly in the wake of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This technological shift not only streamlines the auction process but also opens up new avenues for farmers to reach a broader market and secure better prices for their stock, machinery and rural real estate. The convenience of participating in auctions from the comfort of their properties has proven to be a game-changer, offering farmers greater flexibility and efficiency in their operations.

The recent increase in rainfall however does offer a promising outlook for 2024, instilling positivity in the agricultural sector. We forward to continued favourable conditions.

We know it’s been a tough year for livestock with disappointing fat cattle sale prices . As farmers gear up for the upcoming year, strategic planning becomes paramount, especially considering the unpredictable weather patterns and economic fluctuations. The recent shifts underscore the importance of forward-thinking strategies in the cattle and lamb industry.

One such strategic approach involves focusing on the preservation and management of the female herd. Prioritising the well-being of female livestock by ensuring access to adequate feed and water becomes crucial. Leveraging crops as a source of feed and implementing supplementary feeding programs are strategic measures that mitigate the impact of adverse conditions. The key lies in the timing of these efforts, creating a valuable asset that pays off when market dynamics shift. By preserving the female herd during challenging periods, farmers position themselves to capitalise on high demand and low supply when favourable market conditions arise.

The JBR team specialise in livestock and property and have a wealth of knowledge and experience in the industry, with professional, honest, reliable, personalised service.  Whether our clients are looking to buy or sell a large-scale farming property, or just need to sell a few head of cattle, our JBR team are ready to go.
