Reflecting on a Year of Growth and Optimism in Agriculture
As 2024 draws to a close, we’re proud to reflect on a year of resilience, growth, and renewed confidence in the agricultural sector. Livestock sales have been strong throughout the year, with feeder and domestic trade holding steady demand. The export market has reached its highest levels since pre-drought, signalling a robust recovery and laying the groundwork for continued strength in the months ahead.
Rural property and farmland markets have seen notable growth, especially in the second half of the year. Bumper crops, increased cattle prices, and forecasts of interest rate cuts in early 2025 have fuelled a surge in activity. This will renew the market, with both buyers and sellers eager to finalise deals before Christmas and with banks back in business, actively driving transactions, we hope this momentum will carry into the new year.
Our longer-term outlook remains highly optimistic. If current rainfall forecasts deliver a strong finish to 2024, demand for rural properties and agricultural investments is likely to strengthen further. Combined with the anticipated interest rate cuts, the market is well-positioned for sustained growth, setting the stage for a thriving 2025.
Our online clearing auctions have also shown steady progress, with increased buyer confidence and familiarity with the digital process. This evolving behaviour reflects the adaptability of rural industries and underscores the strength of the market as it embraces new ways of doing business.
We are also looking forward to the completion ofthe Gunnedah Saleyards upgrade.
